My cunt examination

One day a boy asks his dad,
"What's the difference between a p**** and a cunt?"
Dad thought for a minute and said, "Come with me."
He took his son to his mother's bedroom, where she
was sleeping nude. "Son," he whispered, "see that
brown soft furry patch? That is a p****."
The boy asked, "May I touch it to see how soft and
furry it is?"
"No!" replied his father. "That might wake up the cunt."

Miniaturize a Scene

From Wired How-To Wiki

It's called a tilt-shift effect. It's a favorite device of fine-art photographers and the Flickr crowd. The idea is to keep a narrow band of a picture in sharp focus while blurring everything else. The result: a sprawling photo-scape suddenly looks like a scale model. To pull it off you need an expensive tilt-shift lens -— or this simple Photoshop trick.

This page is a wiki. Got extra advice? Log in and add it.

How To Proceed

1. Import your image to Photoshop, then press Q to enter Quick Mask mode.

2. Select the Gradient tool and set it to Reflected Gradient. Click on the area you want to be in focus and drag the cursor in the direction you want the image to blur.

3. Press Q again to complete the mask and exit Quick Mask mode

4. Invert your selection with CTRL+SHIFT+I (in Windows)/ SHIFT+COMMAND+I (ie Select>Inverse) (Mac) (once you quit Quick Mask, otherwise you'll blur the section you actually want to keep in focus :)

5. Apply a blur filter from the Filters menu.

6. Marvel at your masterpiece.

Examples

Tips & Tricks

Tip: For better results, you may also want to increase the saturation of the image because often models are painted with bright, slightly unrealistic colors. This can really make a big difference in the final image and add that extra 'pop' to the effect. Press cmd+U (on a mac) or ctrl+U on a PC to change the saturation, often +40 works pretty well but play around with it to see what looks the best for that image.

Tip: Start on photos with lots of depth and detail. Prime candidates include skyline shots, arial shots or anything with a birds-eye view of a scene far away and below. It's an optical illusion, so the more large objects (cars, trucks, buildings, rivers) in the scene, the easier it will be to fool the eye.

Tip: The further you drag the cursor for the Gradient tool, the more of your photo will stay in focus. For better results, keep the in-focus portion slimmer by dragging over less of the photo.

Tip: Making a miniature set appear real usually requires getting the lens as low to the "ground" as possible...so making a real scene look small requires the opposite. Choosing a perspective from higher than twenty feet in the air will automatically bias the observer into believing the scene is of something small. Usually the higher - the better.

Tip: In theory, at least, you should be able to make model shots look less "model-ey" using the same technique, by making sure your mask is centred on the actual point of focus and using "Unsharp Mask" instead of "Blur". It may take some trial-and-error to get the gradient mask along the same axis as the "line of perfect focus", so don't be afraid to make several attempts befor picking the best one.

Praise as good as cash to brain

clipped from www.reuters.com
Paying people a compliment appears to activate the same reward center in the brain as paying them cash, Japanese researchers said
"We found that these seemingly different kinds of rewards -- a good reputation versus money -- are biologically coded by the same neural structure, the striatum,"
In one set of experiments, people played a gambling game in which they were told one of three cards would yield a payout. The researchers then monitored the brain activity triggered when the subjects got a cash reward
In a second set of experiments, people were told they were being evaluated by strangers based on information from a personality questionnaire and a video they had made
The researchers then monitored reactions to these staged evaluations -- including when the subjects thought strangers had paid them a compliment

the world of Islam

Islam is based on the divine revelations of the prophet Muhammed. These revelations were collected to create the holy book of Islam: the Quran. The Quran emphasizes several main points: there is one God (Allah), and Muhammed is His final prophet; the importance of social equality; a strong social code (sharia); and what it is to be a good Muslim through the five pillars of Islam

Five Pillars of Islam:
All
Muslims must proclaim that there is but one God, Allah, and Muhammed is His
prophet
All Muslims must pray five times a day, facing the Kaba in
Mecca
All Muslims who are financially able have a social
responsibility to pay an annual alms tax to the poor
During the ninth lunar month, fasting is a time

LEARNING - the insatiable
curiosity that drives the adolescent boy to absorb everything he can see or hear

how to Resize Images And Maintain Original Sharpness

You have a nice big beautiful photo
But you need it much
smaller
by the time the file is down to the right size, you might find that the image has started to take on a blurry look
is a real problem with resizing images, but luckily in Photoshop there's a
solution
to reduce an image go to the Image> Image Size menu. Click on Resample Image and choose Bicubic Sharper from the drop-down menu. This is the best setting for making sure that an image doesn't blur. The example photo of the flower started at 2,000 pixels across. I stepped it down to 250, and then again to 125 with almost no loss of sharpness
Troubleshooting

Never resize a GIF image. First change the mode to RGB Color (Image> Mode> RGB Color), and then resize. You can still save your resized image as a GIF, just do not apply resizing while the image is in the GIF mode

EcoCabs are coming to Toronto.

A day after the Earth Day rally at Yonge-Dundas Square, a series of cute, environmentally friendly three-wheeled vehicles touched down there for the first time.

"Each vehicle costs about $13,000," says Kozma, who says the cabs are supported by corporate advertising.

EcoCabs in Yonge-Dundas Square

With headlights, rear lights, side-mirrors and an enclosed shell, the vehicles exceed road safety standards. They will ride in the right-most lane and in bike lanes, where the average speed of traffic is 6 km per hour, said Kozma.

I took a brief ride in an EcoCab, which can accommodate two adult passengers comfortably, and was impressed with its smooth ride and quick acceleration.

The EcoCab runs primarily on a trained driver's pedal-power, but is supported by a rechargeable electric battery. So it can reach speeds of up to 12 km per hour on city streets.

You walk wrong

“It took 4 million years to develop our unique human foot and our consequent distinctive form of gait, a remarkable feat of bioengineering. Yet, in only a few thousand years, and with one carelessly designed instrument, our shoes, we have warped the pure anatomical form of human gait, obstructing its engineering efficiency, afflicting it with strains and stresses and denying it its natural grace of form and ease of movement head to foot.”

You Walk Wrong

It took 4 million years of evolution to perfect the human foot. But we’re wrecking it with every
step we take.

it’s not your fault
It’s your shoes.
Last year, researchers at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, published a study titled “Shod Versus Unshod: The Emergence of Forefoot Pathology in Modern Humans?” in the podiatry journal The Foot.
concluded that, prior to the invention of shoes, people had healthier feet
Among the modern subjects, the Zulu population, which often goes barefoot, had the healthiest feet while the Europeans—i.e., the habitual shoe-wearers—had the unhealthiest.
But does that really mean we don’t walk correctly? (Yes.) I mean, don’t we instinctively know how to walk? (Yes, sort of.) Isn’t walking totally natural? Yes—but shoes aren’t.

Military Sea Forts

Ocean and sea forts are few and far between and with good reason: only in fairly extreme circumstances is their expense deemed justifiable. Since being decommissioned, many of these have gained strange second lives as everything from luxury resorts and private retreats to micronations and pirate radio stations.

Sinking a Navy Sea Fort

Guy Maunsell is responsible for an amazing series of WWII army and navy sea forts, many of which still stand today.

Army Sea Forts

Maunsell’s army sea forts were more specifically designed to repel smaller aircraft flying in to attack rather than to lay mines at site.

Horse Sands, Spitbank, St. Helens and No Man’s Land Forts were created in the mid-1800s as defensive sea forts around Portsmouth.

how to fix an allergy house

Allergy-Proof Your House

Back to school, back to cooler nights, back to a sneeze-free life? Think again. Ragweed, late summer’s big offender, lingers well into fall. Plus, your house may be harboring a gang of other allergens—dust mites lurking in bedding and carpet, mold thriving on late-season humidity, beloved pets full of dander, not to mention cockroaches and mice ready to come in from the soon-to-be cold. Sounds like it’s a good time to fortify your germ defenses with these fall-cleaning tips from our allergy experts.

Whole Home
Target: Ragweed, pollen, and other airborne uglies
Autumn’s arrival means sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes for up to 20 percent of Americans, thanks to ragweed. Meanwhile, mold and dust mites may already be triggering allergic reactions.

Action Plan:
Crank up the AC. It filters incoming air and dehumidifies your house, a hedge against mold and dust mites. Effective air conditioners should keep the humidity level around 30 to 40 percent. To monitor the level of moisture in your air, try a humidity gauge (available at home-improvement stores). If you get a reading above 50 percent with the AC on, your unit may not be powerful enough.

Filter it. Change the filter for your heating-and-AC system monthly to combat clogs that keep it from doing its allergy-fighting job.

Clean the air. Put a free-standing air purifier (www.natlallergy.com has a good selection) in rooms where you spend a lot of time; it may reduce allergic reactions if it has true HEPA (high-efficency particulate air filter) technology, the gold standard when it comes to removing tiny airborne particles. Make sure the packaging has the HEPA label. But avoid ozone-generating purifiers; too much ozone is an airway irritant.

Bedroom
Target: Dust mites
About 20 million of us are allergic to dust mites. But don’t let them get between you and a good night’s sleep.

Action Plan:
Bathe your bedding. Use only washable linens, and launder them weekly in water that’s at least 130 degrees. Turn up the hot-water heater for the job, and then return it to the safe zone.

Wrap it up. Studies show that allergenic mattress wraps (find many at www.allergybuyersclub.com) can keep dust mite waste from puffing out into your air.

Living Room
Target: Dust mites and dander
Dust mites live here, too, along with invited guests: Dogs and cats harbor allergens in their saliva, urine, and dander.

Action Plan:
Vacuum smart. Invest in a high-quality vac that has a HEPA filter or double-layer bags. Try Sears’ Kenmore Progressive 25512 canister model (about $250; www.sears.com). Also, wear a dust mask or (happily) delegate this chore.

Fight the fur. A vacuum’s upholstery attachment can de-fur furnishings, but keep pets off of them as much as possible. Ideally, pets should get a weekly bath. Try Allerpet’s line of towel-applied shampoos (www.amazon.com)—no soaking of cranky animals required.

Bathroom
Target: Mold
Mold loves wet, steamy surroundings, and experts caution that its tiny spores can be inhaled. If you’re allergic to pollens and dander, chances are you’ll have some sensitivity to mold spores, too.

Action Plan:
Scrub the tight spots. Give the corners of your shower or tub a weekly once-over with a cleaning solution containing 5 percent chlorine bleach and a small amount of detergent. Always use the ventilation fan when you shower. And if you see mildew on that wallpaper? Time to strip it.

Tend to the floor. Bare floors, like easy-to-clean tile or marble, are best. Clean bath mats in hot water weekly, and make sure they dry out between uses.

Kitchen
Target: Cockroaches and mice
Allergens in their saliva and droppings can make you sneeze. Also, studies have shown that exposure to cockroaches can trigger or worsen asthma.

Action Plan:
Control crumbs. Clean regularly under your stove, refrigerator, and toaster, where crumbs tend to gather. Don’t leave dishes in the sink. And keep all food sealed tight.

Deny access. Caulk areas where pests can enter wall, window, and floor cracks.

Best method to Whiten Your Teeth the Natural Way

Be careful not to use this too often, though, as the acid could damage the enamel on your teeth

Teeth Whitening
Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking powder until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking powder mix. Rinse

1st time Darwin's Papers Online 4 Free

Charles Darwin's Papers Online
Charles Darwin in 1871
For decades available only to scholars at Cambridge University Library, the private papers of Charles Darwin, one of the most influential scientists in history, can now be seen by anyone online and free of charge. This is the largest ever publication of Darwin papers and manuscripts, totalling about 20,000 items in nearly 90,000 electronic images.
This vast and varied collection of papers includes the first draft of his theory of evolution, notes from the voyage of the Beagle and Emma Darwin's recipe book.
These online images are scans from copies of early black and white microfilms produced by the Cambridge University Library Imaging Service, mostly in the 1990s. For online publication now a slight colour tint has been added to many and the brightness and contrast have been digitally enhanced.

Male Masturbation Reduces Cancer Risk

Handy to know. Nice to know this info is at hand.
clipped from news.bbc.co.uk
Men could reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer through regular masturbation, researchers suggest.

They say cancer-causing chemicals could build up in the prostate if men do not ejaculate regularly.

And they say sexual intercourse may not have the same protective effect because of the possibility of contracting a sexually transmitted infection, which could increase men's cancer risk.

They found those who had ejaculated the most between the ages of 20 and 50 were the least likely to develop the cancer.

The protective effect was greatest while the men were in their 20s.

The researchers suggest that ejaculating may prevent carcinogens accumulating in the prostate gland.
Anthony Smith, deputy director of the Australian Research Centre in Sex,
Health and Society at La Trobe University in Melbourne, said

"Masturbation is part of people's sexual repertoire.

"If these findings hold up, then it's
perfectly reasonable that men should be encouraged to masturbate,"

Glacier Lake vanishes into 'Niagra Falls'

What used to be a glacier, will just be ice floating down the river.
clipped from www.abc.net.au

Glaciologists have documented for the first time the sudden disappearance of a lake on the top of the Greenland ice sheet, which they say drained away with the force of Niagara Falls.

glacier melt stream
Like bathwater rushing down a plug-hole, the vast lake of meltwater vanished in a day through a crack in the ice, say researchers

The research documents a natural plumbing system on the glacier which enabled meltwater to gush through a kilometre-thick ice mass and reach its base, a phenomenon that scientists believe can help speed up summer ice movement.

Das and colleagues say the maximum drainage rate of the 5.6 square kilometre lake was faster than the average flow rate over Niagara Falls.

Like a draining bathtub, the entire lake emptied from the bottom in 24 hours, with the majority of the water flowing out in a 90-minute span, they say.

Philippines 2000. Philippine Tourist Spots. The Rice Terraces of the Cordilleras.
Two hundred miles north of Manila, on the island of Luzon in the

Cordillera mountain range.

world’s most incredible agricultural engineering project

tourism is also thought to be responsible for the start of what could be a slow death of the terraces for a couple of reasons. firstly, the new generation of locals see the hospitality industry created by the terraces as a far more appealing line of work than the constant farming and attention needed to sustain the terraces themselves. secondly, water isn’t as readily available as in the past due to the effects of an earthquake in 1990 and the new demand for water itself from the tourist industry.

for that reason unesco has placed the terraces on a list of world heritage sites it believes to be ‘in danger’ in hope of starting a successful rehabilitation of the world’s most incredible agricultural engineering system.

the rice terraces of the philippine cordilleras
approximately 3′000 years ago the people of cordillera took on one of mankind’s most impressive landscape modification projects in order to farm effectively on the surrounding mountainsides and slowly transform the region into what some now call the eighth wonder of the world. due to the sheer scale of this farming system it’s hard to disagree: the rice terraces of the philippine cordilleras, if laid out end to end, would stretch halfway round the globe.
the fact that it was completed thousands of years ago without the use of modern apparatus and machinery takes the terraces and integrated irrigation systems to a whole new level
carve horizontal ledges into hills, essentially creating thousands of small walled fields from base to peak in which to grow crops and retain much needed water. however, in the cordilleras region this has been applied to an area on an elsewhere unseen scale: approximately 10′360 square kilometre

Michelangelo
Merisi, called later Caravaggio, was born in either Milan, or a town of
Caravaggio near Milan, as the son of a ducal architect. His early training
started in 1584 under Simone Peterzano, a little known pupil of Titian,
and continued till 1588.

In 1592, Caravaggio went to Rome. His contact with Giuseppe Cesare d’Arpino
(1568-1640), the most popular painter and art dealer in Rome at the turn
of the century, brought him recognition.  Through the art business
Caravaggio met his first patron Cardinal Francesco Maria Del Monte, who
not only held out the possibility of working independently, but also secured
for him his first public commission:

easiest job in the world- tipping shares

In Australia, every day we read the headline in business that the shares will be higher or lower for next day. Well, even i can predict that...98% of the time we follow whatever the USA market does and being "time zoned" there's a period for making your guesses and wasting your $$...if only there was better prediction for the hidden disasters like companies holding back facts, and denying inherent problems. Stock market is certainly not a level playing field.

What if you could eat a rainbow?

It seems so easy and so fantastic.
rainbow-jello-side-sm.jpg

I picked up a 6oz box of blue, yellow and red jello plus a box of knox gelatin. To get these fabulous layers, mix the blue jello with an envelope of the knox gelatin. Pour in two cups of boiling water. Dissolve the gelatin. Add 1/2 cup of ice. Stir until thick. Remove any remaining ice cubes and any bubbles that may have formed. Pour into a 9×13 inch pan. Let set in the refrigerator.

Repeat with the yellow jello and pour it over the set blue. Repeat with the red jello and pour it over the yellow. And there you have it, Rainbow Jello.

rainbow-jellos-sm.jpg

I won’t go into the whole primary and secondary color thing, but these colors, when stacked upon each other, create other colors. There is not an orange or green layer. It just looks like it when the red and yellow layers touch and then yellow and blue layers touch. Pretty cool.

other rich countries have universal health care. why don’t we?

FRONTLINE TRAVELS TO FIVE COUNTRIES IN SEARCH OF A UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM THAT COULD WORK IN THE U.S.

FRONTLINE teams up with T.R. Reid, a veteran foreign correspondent for The Washington Post, to find out how five other capitalist democracies--United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and Switzerland--deliver health care and what the United States might learn from their successes and their failures. In Sick Around the World, airing Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 9 P.M. ET on PBS (check local listings), Reid turns up remarkable differences in how these countries handle health care--from Japan, where a night in a hospital can cost as little as $10, to Switzerland, where the president of the country tells Reid it would be a "huge scandal" if someone were to go bankrupt from medical bills.

James Madison 1723 - 1836 feared constantly that unauthorized people would seek to read his private and public correspondence. To deter such intrusions, he resorted to a variety of codes and ciphers. Most of the early ciphers that Madison used were keyword polyalphabetic code systems involving a complex interaction of a keyword with alphabets and numbers in a preestablished pattern.

The Origin of the Crossword Puzzle

Crossword Casualties

Some folks were driven over the edge by the craze. In 1924, a Chicago woman sued her husband for divorce, claiming "he was so engrossed in solving crosswords that he didn’t have time to work." The judge ordered the man to "limit himself to 3 puzzles a day and devote the rest of his time to domestic duties." In 1925, a New York Telephone Co. employee shot his wife when she wouldn’t help with a crossword puzzle. And in 1926, a Budapest man committed suicide, leaving an explanation in the form of a crossword puzzle. (No one could solve it.) Eventually, the craze died down. It took The New York Times to revive it.

Today, The New York Times crossword puzzle is considered the puzzle of choice for hardcore addicts, but that hasn’t always been true. Believe it or not, the Times resisted crosswords for more than two decades. Here’s the story of how the newspaper changed its mind...<<
